Europeans began to cultivate strawberries in XV century. In the 1715, a French engineer

brought two sorts of wild strawberries from America for the King Ludwig XV – Virginia and

Chilean sort plants. For many years these strawberries were grown only in royal gardens.

In XVIII century they were brought to the Holland, where as a result of hybridization, a new

sort was created – Pineapple strawberries. In XVII century only 4 sorts of strawberries were

cultivated in Europe. Currently, strawberries are one of the most popular berries. In

Tibetan medicine strawberries are considered as a tool against premature aging and

elixir of youth and longevity.
